Object appears in explosion of light over desolate stretch of Arizona highway
A witness driving along a desolate stretch of the Arizona desert in the middle of the night reported seeing "an enormous, energetic explosion of light" and a laser-like object shower sparks across the sky on November 25, 2012.
The driver told the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) that they were driving east on a "very dark and desolate" area of Interstate 40 near Flagstaff, AZ, at 2:15 AM when the night sky suddenly became very bright from an "explosive burst of light " that appeared from the north. The light was described as white/blue in color. The witness said that a blue, laser like object emerged from the initial explosion of light, which was followed by more light, sparks and flames, as it crossed the sky and then disappeared.
The witness estimated that the object was at an altitude of about 1000 feet and when it appeared it showered sparks that resembled an "electrical surge."
The initial explosion seemed to create what the witness described as "a ring-like effect, out of which, it seemed, emerged a large, oblong, glowing object" with a "blue laser like appearance."
The witness continued, "the object rapidly 'skittered' and dashed across the sky, westward, covering at least a couple of miles (or perhaps many more) in a matter of only 5 or 6 seconds. It seemed to leave a trail of 'sparks' or some kind of flaring energy."
The event then ended suddenly "with another display of explosive light."
The sky immediately returned to normal and "it was over," according to the witness.
The experience left the witness shaken. "I felt shocked, amazed, afraid and excited, all at once, during and immediately after the event. I even wondered if I had hallucinated or imagined the entire thing because it seemed so "unreal." It was like nothing I have ever seen before, not even in movies.
The witness submitted two still images taken from a video of the event, who claimed that they happened to have their video camera running at the time. The witness also claimed to have met another traveler who witnessed the event, but not as clearly.
Without seeing the video, it is difficult to determine if the object was an unusually spectacular meteor or something even more exotic. Another question is why was the witness recording a video while driving along a very dark stretch of highway at 2:15 in the morning, as they claim, enabling them to capture a 6 second long event that suddenly came out of nowhere?
Original (unedited) witness report:
November 25, 2012, 2:15 a.m., Kingman, AZ - Explosive burst of light appeared in sky, white/blue, out of which came a blue, lazer-like object, follwed by more light, sparks/flames, crossing the sky and then disappearing. Case 44179.
I was driving East on the I-40, near Flagstaff, AZ. It was aproximately 2AM. It was very dark and desolate. Suddenly, the sky became very bright. My attention was drawn to the sky, North, toward Nevada.
Within aprox 1000ft AGL, there appeared an enormous, energetic explosion of light, mostly blue and white, that cast down a shower of sparks, somewhat similar to en electrical surge. The explosion seemed to create a ring-like effect, out of which, it seemed, emerged a large, oblong, glowing object. It had a blue, lazer-like appearance.
The object rapidly "skittered" and dashed across the sky, westward, covering at least a couple of miles (or perhaps many more) in a matter of only 5 or 6 seconds. It seemed to leave a trail of "sparks" or some kind of flaring energy.
The entire event seemed to end suddenly, in another display of explosive light. The sky immediately returned to its normal state, and it was over.
I felt shocked, amazed, afraid and excited, all at once, during and immediately after the event. I even wondered if I had hallucinated or imagned the entire thing because it seemed so "unreal." It was like nothing I have ever seen before, not even in movies.
I did, by chance, have my video recorder on and was able to capture the majority of the event. I later encountered another traveler who saw the event, but not with as much clarity.
