"Aurora Incident" -El Paso, TX, Man Sees Flying Disc With Portholes (1897)
One of the country’s earliest UFO sightings was reported in the April 20, 1897 edition of the El Paso (Texas) Herald.
A man, who swore he had not been drinking, told the newspaper he saw a cigar-shaped craft above El Paso beginning at 2 a.m. that day. He said the object flew 500 feet above him without making any noise. He could see portholes around the side and they revealed light on the inside of the aircraft.
The man also said he heard voices coming from inside the UFO before it flew off to the south, in the direction of Mexico.
The same month, a more famous Texas sighting was reported near Fort Worth, in the town of Aurora, where an official state historic marker was placed near the site of where the body of an "alien"was buried after a UFO reportedly crashed into a windmill. The case has become known as the "Aurora Incident."
