• Low flying triangle UFO reported over busy Alabama highway

By Ted Bonnitt on November 21st, 2014

A triangle shape UFO was reported flying in an unusual manner at tree top level over a busy Alabama interstate highway in the early evening of November 19, 2014.

The slow moving craft was spotted near Hoover, Alabama, at 5:55 PM, according to a witness report to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

The unnamed, male witness was driving northeast on Interstate 495 when they spotted the craft hovering over a highway bridge near the Morgan Road exit. The witness initially thought the craft was a “small, two-seat airplane” because a local airport was not far away.

    But the craft ...

  • First ever comet lander goes quiet.

By Ted Bonnitt on November 15th, 2014

The historic Philae comet lander run out of battery power and has put itself to sleep, perhaps forever.

Mission controllers at the European Space Agency (ESA) announced that the lander went dead after 56 hours, and that it was able perform several science experiments and relay the information to Earth before shutting down.

ESA is calling the abbreviated lander’s mission “a great success.”

The short life of the lander is attributed to Wednesday’s troubled landing on the distant comet. Landing rockets and harpoons designed to anchor the lander to the surface failed to work, causing the Philae to ...

  • Comet lander sends first pictures from surface - but may be dead by Saturday

By Ted Bonnitt on November 13th, 2014

The first lander on a comet is already sending unique data back to Earth, but its life may be soon snuffed out by darkness.

The European Space Agency said today that there Philae probe had a rough landing after all, due to malfunctions and eventually dropping into a bad luck parking space on comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.

When the lander descended onto the 2.5 mile wide rock almost exactly where planned, the comet’s near lack of gravity caused the Philae to “bounce” off the surface and over a half mile up before falling slowly back to the surface ...

  • HISTORY MADE- PHILAE LANDS ON COMET- Craft fails to anchor to surface- raises concerns

By Ted Bonnitt on November 11th, 2014

A historic attempt to soft land a spacecraft on a comet hundreds of millions of miles from Earth has succeeded. But there are concerns.

The European Space Agency (ESA) reports that the 220 pound Philae spacecraft has sent confirmation to Earth that it has landed on the 2.5 mile wide 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko comet.

Mission controllers report that despite a softer than expected landing, the Philae spacecraft has not yet anchored itself to the comet, and its grasp on the comet may be tenuous. More attempts will be made to deploy the anchors.

However, the science has begun with ...

  • Three white orbs seen in Utah and Colorado a day apart

By Ted Bonnitt on November 3rd, 2014

Many eyewitness reports, photos and videos were taken of mysterious white light orbs over Colorado and Utah in October.

On October 2, 2014, three stationary white discs were seen and photographed in clear skies over Salt Lake City, UT. The following day, a video taken in Crestville, Colorado, showed clear, daytime images of three similar objects, some of which at times resembled the bottom of what could be weather balloons (see video below).

However, witnesses dispute the weather balloon hypothesis because the objects remained stationary for over an hour, which would defy a balloon’s drifting movement in wind. The ...
