• Pilot error likely cause of Virgin Galactic spaceship crash

    Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShip2 test vehicle crash was due to pilot era, according to investigators on scene. One of the two pilots who were aboard was killed and the other seriously hurt when the spacecraft went down during a test flight last week.

    The failure occurred two minutes after the SpaceShip2's rocket engine was ignited.

    The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed that the co-pilot, 39 year-old Michael Alsbury, who died in the accident, unlocked the craft's aerodynamic controls too early, and that the ship disintegrated seconds later. Alsbury unlocked a lever that caused ...

  • From the far side of the Moon to Earth

    China’s Chang'e 5 spacecraft test mission has rounded the far side of the Moon and is on its way back to Earth. The engineering mission is designed to test the craft’s systems in preparation for a lunar sample retrieval mission in 2017.

    The spacecraft took a spectacular image looking back at Earth from behind the far side of the Moon as swung around it and headed home for a November 1 re-entry landing.

  • Rocket failure raises questions over use of old Russian engines

    Last night’s Antares rocket explosion and loss of hundreds of millions of dollars of payload destined for the International Space Station (ISS) raises questions about the reliability of the aging Russian rockets being used by the private Orbital Sciences Corporation for their launch system.

    The rocket was intentionally exploded by ground controllers when a catastrophic equipment failure occurred seconds after launching under clear skies at 6:22PM from Wallops Island, Virginia.   • College students report two daylight UFO sightings over California campus

    Two Sacramento City College, CA, students report spotting two UFOs seconds apart over their campus in the afternoon of October 2, 2014.
